Travel from the United States to Cuba has been a hot topic for a while. With what seems like new developments from the government every day, it’s hard to keep track of the latest regulations. Despite all of the attention, it appears Americans aren’t really interested in traveling to Cuba.
A study from Allianz Travel Insurance released in May showed less Americans were interested in traveling to Cuba in 2017 than they were in 2016. Even after the Obama administration’s easing of travel restrictions, only 26 percent of those polled expressed interest in visiting the country.
Lack of information on Cuba’s travel experience, travel infrastructure and internet/mobile connectivity were among the factors detracting interest in travel to Cuba. The resorts and beaches (32 percent), cultural attractions (23 percent) and Cuban food and rum (13 percent) were the factors drawing the most interest for travel.
At release of the study results, “Our survey found that merely two percent of Americans think they will go to Cuba in the next six months, two percent believe they will make it there by the end of 2017 and 10 percent think they will go sometime in 2018,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications, Allianz Global Assistance USA.
