Looking for a quick weekend getaway? Online weekend travel portal and app weekenGO released a study revealing the top 100 best cities around the world to spend the weekend. Because the study only looks at a weekend getaway, price wasn’t a factor.
To determine the best weekend destinations, weekenGO looked at 1,000 cities for their ease of navigation and finding accommodations; number of green spaces; entertainment including bars, concerts and restaurants; cultural institutions like museums, galleries and theaters; and other factors like LGBTQ and women safety.
The overall best city to spend a weekend: England’s historic, culture-rich capital of London. The city ranked highest for walkability, dining and museums. Following London, in Europe, the best cities for weekend trips are Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich and Barcelona.
In the United States, New York City takes the top spot, scoring particularly high for bars/restaurants and museums/art galleries. Other high-ranking U.S. cities include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and Las Vegas — all well-known and loved for their entertainment options, dining and outdoor activity options, from lounging on the beaches in Los Angeles and Miami to exploring the canyons outside Las Vegas.
Ranking lower on the list of 100 cities, but still certainly worth a visit, are Casablanca, Morocco; Sofia, Bulgaria; Monte Carlo, Monaco; and Belgrade, Serbia — most came up short in the entertainment category.
