Tips / Destination

Gin and tonics (or “gin tonics” as they are called in Barcelona) have taken over as the new drink du jour, surpassing sangria in terms of popularity. As gins invade the capital of Catalonia, bars are accepting the challenge of creating the best classic cocktail in the city. Stop by some of the bars below for Barcelona´s new signature drink.

Old Fashioned

Although this watering hole tucked away in the Gracia neighborhood has become a bit of a recent draw for tourists, the small space and smiling bartenders make it feel like your friendly neighborhood bar.

Dirty Martini

This international chain is considered one of the best cocktail bars in the world, and is the only representative from Spain on the list of the 50 Best Cocktail Bars. Sample one of the bar´s seasonal cocktails in a bar where gin reigns supreme.

Bar Ultramarinos

For a cozy cocktail experience, stop by this famous bar near Parallel in the Raval neighborhood. Order from the menu or ask the bartenders for recommendations they will create on the spot.

XIX Bar

With more than 50 gins and a knowledgeable staff, this bar in the Poble Sec neighborhood is a must-visit for gin lovers. Sample their house-made carrot, chocolate or grapefruit gins.
