Having golden tresses is great. Whether they are naturally made, the sun did it or you got some chemical assistance, let your light shine. One drawback is the brassiness that can appear when you go blonde. But there is a solution to every problem and the trick is getting your hands on the right shampoo.
In this case, you need to invest in a purple shampoo. How does it work? Blonde hair is warm in tone and purple or violet shampoos deposit cooler tones into the hair to relieve brassiness. Great, right? Yes. Be careful, however, because you can use too much. If you over use violet shampoo, it will dull your hair color and possibly make it appear gray. Pros recommend using the stuff once a week or once every 10 days to balance your color.
If you do overuse violet shampoo, you can reverse the effects by washing a few times with a clarifying shampoo or dandruff shampoo to remove the purple pigments. When looking for a shampoo to buy, there are some top-of-the-line products out there, but most are not cheap. The good news is sample bottles are available for about $14 on Amazon. For a product people swear by, go with Oribe. It smells like jasmine and is gentle, although still slightly drying. As an added bonus this product claims to illuminate natural highlights as well. R+Co smells sweet and vaguely floral without being cloying. It definitely leaves hair brighter. For a drugstore brand with a lot of fans, try Clairol Shimmer Lights; it does the trick for a third of the price.
