Ease of transportation is an important factor to consider when visiting a new city, especially if you plan on renting a car. Auto company kfzteile24 conducted a study to determine the best and worst cities for driving based on factors including congestion levels, public transportation options, parking and fuel costs, accidents and road quality. To determine the 50 best and 50 worst cities for driving, the company examined the top 500 cities with the highest number of registered vehicles.
Ranking No. 1 city for best driving is Dusseldorf, Germany. The city takes the top spot for reliable public transportation, affordable parking and high road quality, among other factors. Rounding out the top five is Dubai, Zurich, Tokyo and Basel, with Tokyo and Dubai ranking particularly well for affordable gas prices and Basel and Zurich ranking exceptionally high for road quality and infrastructure.
On the other end of the spectrum, three of the five worst cities in the world for driving are in India. Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore didn’t fare well on the scale, losing significant points for high traffic levels, poor air quality due to car pollution and road traffic and poor road quality. Other cities to avoid driving include Karachi, Pakistan; Lagos, Nigeria; and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
