Bridgestone Americas recently released its survey, conducted by Harris Poll, detailing Americans’ summer road trip habits.
About 90 percent of those polled plan to take a road trip this summer (more than 50 miles from home). Those who take summer road trips save more than $1,000 per person in anticipation of the trip and start saving anywhere from four–six months in advance. Most of these travelers (94 percent) perform vehicle maintenance before embarking on vacation: 72 percent check fluids, 70 percent test tire pressure and 59 percent change the oil. Those who perform these checks spend an average of $127 on vehicle maintenance.
Americans are willing to travel 660 miles to reach their destination, 80 miles further than 2014’s total of 580 miles. The majority of travelers are making their trip to visit friends or family (46 percent). Classic rock is the radio station of choice among 47 percent of road trippers.
The survey polled more than 2,000 adults ages 18 and older currently living in the United States. It was conducted online during April 2015. For more information about Bridgestone and the survey, visit the website.
