A honeymoon is meant to be a peaceful time for a newlywed couple, wherein two people can spend uninterrupted days together celebrating their union and looking forward to the rest of their lives together. But what if the wedding was so fun you want the celebration to continue on a lavish getaway? Some new spouses take their friends on their honeymoons with them, a trend known as a “buddymoon.”
A Priceline survey on wedding travel revealed that during the past five years, 12 percent of responders took part in a buddymoon, by either offering the friend trip to their closest pals or by going on a honeymoon with a pair of newlyweds. Since more couples than ever are hosting destination weddings in faraway places, adding an extra trip to the end of the nuptials is easy to do when part of the group is already there.
These days, most couples live together before the wedding, so the antiquated idea of finally having alone time on a honeymoon does not apply to modern couples. The act of getting married means you will probably have a lot of alone time with that other person for the rest of your life, so rather than making the trip all about the couple, some have decided to invite a few loved ones from the wedding to a relaxing vacation as a small group.
