Tips / Destination

Besides music, Nashville is known for great barbecue, hot chicken and authentic Southern fare. With plenty of places to choose from at every budget, we’ve compiled our favorite wallet-friendly food in Nashville.

Five Points Pizza

Five Points Pizza serves New York-style slices, with thin, flaky crust. However, the garlic knots are the real standout on the menu. Served with a side of marinara, a half order costs $3; spring for a full order for $6.

Prince’s Hot Chicken

Getting hot chicken in Nashville is a must. Skip the popular Hattie B’s and go to local favorite, Prince’s Hot Chicken. This hot chicken is hot — even the mild version. Be prepared to wait, as each meal is made to order. Chicken starts at $5. Skip the sides, but order extra pickles.

Peg Leg Porker

Barbecue is another must-have item in Nashville. While there are many great places to choose from, try Peg Leg Porker. The no-frills joint serves barbecue classics. Stop by for lunch Monday–Friday for the lunch special — a BBQ sandwich, side and drink for $8.90.

The Cupcake Collection

Located in the city’s charming Germantown neighborhood, The Cupcake Collection serves up homemade cupcakes at a reasonable price. Flavors vary slightly by day and include strawberry, wedding cake, cookies n’ cream, peanut butter mousse and sweet potato. Gluten-free and vegan options are available upon request. Prices range $2–7.
