Tips / Destination

Luanda is not a city known for its affordable dining, or even great food. There are a few hidden gems hidden throughout the city, though. If you’re in town and on a budget have a look at these eateries.

Churrascaria Nandinhos

Churrascaria Nandinhos is a delightful little hole in the wall that looks more like a small cafeteria than a restaurant. The grilled chicken here is to die for, and the prices are on par with what you might find in the United States.

Alvalade 61

Nestled right next to the Hotel Alvalade, this chic dining establishment is one of the best places in Luanda to go for a relaxing meal. A local artist did all the art on the wall and it has a smoking lounge if that’s your thing. Prices are a reasonable $15 a plate on average.

Kintal da Tia Guida

Kintal da Tia Guida is the affordable place to go if you’re looking for some tasty seafood. The atmosphere is nothing to brag about, but the food is good and the prices are reasonable, unlike most places in the city.

Gelati Luanda

Sometimes all you need is a light snack to help fill you up on the go. Gelati Luanda serves up some delightful gelato reminiscent of what you’d find in the streets of Rome. Best of all? It’s pretty cheap.

Cervejaria Tendinha

Angolan comfort food is a must-try when in town and few places do better than Cervejaria Tendinha. Located downtown near EPIC Sana, this cozy little joint is a bistro that serves up meals for around $10.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.
