For 47 years, the annual Memphis in May International Festival, a non-profit, has been producing music and the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest in Memphis each May since 1977. Running May 15–18, the World Championship Barbeque Cooking Contest offers a unique barbeque experience that allows guests to judge and sample Memphis’ world-famous barbeque.
For active travelers, The Great American River Run, held May 25, takes marathon runners along the Mississippi River and through downtown Memphis.
While in Memphis for the Memphis in May Festival, be sure to also attend the separate RiverBeat Music Festival, May 3–5, in Tom Lee Park with an exciting lineup that will appeal to everyone’s music tastes.
