Known for its wide, sandy beaches and biodiverse tropical rainforest, Tobago is the smaller of the two Caribbean islands comprising the nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Tobago shares distinct Creole traditions and cuisines with its neighbor, Trinidad, including vibrant rhythms of calypso and soca music along with a delectable cuisine featuring fresh fish from the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The island is unspoiled and untouched, a true hidden gem.
From its diverse bird species to its breathtaking beaches, Tobago is an ecotourism paradise. It also boasts magnificent mountain terrains, providing endless opportunities for hiking and adventure. The Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. After a long day exploring the forest, the shelter provided by the forest along with the hums of hundreds of hummingbirds and calls of numerous bird species leave travelers captivated and in awe.

Since the island is just 27 miles long, you can see the whole coastline in a day. Rent a car and visit the beaches and bays of Tobago and become mesmerized by the scenic views of the beaches, mountain terrains and rainforests. Some of the island’s best beaches are Buccoo Bay, Englishman’s Bay and Nylon Pool, each boasting clear crystal waters with a huge variety of marine life. Take part in high-quality diving excursions with The Environmental Research Institute Charlotteville (ERIC) or night kayaking sessions where you can truly experience a rarity in the world: bioluminescent waters.
A visit to Tobago wouldn’t be complete without chocolate, and there is no better place to see why Tobago has its own award-winning chocolate than Tobago Cocoa Estate. Here, visitors learn the fermentation and drying process of the cocoa beans and, of course, sample some fresh and delicious chocolate. The estate is also close to Argyle Falls, Tobago’s highest waterfall, offering the brave the opportunity to jump 177 feet into a series of pools surrounded by jungle.

Perfect to visit in the fall as the island experiences beautiful weather with warm temperatures, plenty of sunshine and low humidity levels, travelers can take advantage of all this beautiful destination has to offer. October especially is a great time to visit thanks to the Tobago Blue Food Festival and Tobago Carnival, which takes place this year Oct. 27–29. The beauty of the country is on full display with unmatched energy as Tobagonians take this time to express their colorful traditions and culture.
After visiting Tobago, you will see a different side of the Caribbean and come away relaxed and inspired, feeling brand-new.

Insta FeedHow to Leave No Trace While Traveling
Visit any popular destination and you’ll find an abundance of one thing: tourists. While there’s nothing wrong with that — travel does, after all, bring us closer to the world around us — tourists have earned quite the negative reputation for leaving destinations worse for wear. Whether it’s a visitor climbing to the top of the temple at Chichen Itza or tourists scratching their name on the wall of Rome’s Colosseum, it seems humans are always leaving their mark on the places they visit.
