Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second-largest in China and serves as a celebration of the brightest phase of the Moon and a ceremony to give thanks for the harvest. The festival usually occurs during the month of September but has, in previous years, been held during the first week of October depending on the moon’s cycle.

Each year, people across China gather together with family and friends to celebrate the holiday by preparing large feasts and parties. It’s a weekend-long event that brings entire villages together for parades and musical performances, making it a wonderful opportunity for travelers to experience a unique part of Chinese culture.

The primary cuisine of the festival in the moon cake, traditionally seen as a “sacrifice” to the moon as an offering for a good harvest. They come in many flavors and are presented all across the country to families and friends during this time. Other customs include dragon and lion dances and playing lanterns, always a joy to watch.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is not confined to China, as many Asian countries adopted it throughout the years, but it remains the most exciting and authentic in its home region. Anyone seeking to experience one of the country’s greatest cultural events should certainly check it out.
