Photographers on the Caribbean island may not have easy access to the same equipment as those in other parts of the world, but there are lots of them doing great work. Here are some of the best to look out for.
Perhaps the most famous photograph from Cuba is the iconic shot of Che Guevara, which made it on to countless t-shirts and other pieces of tourist tat. The photograph was taken by Alberto Korda, a Cuban photographer who shot around 55,000 images during the Revolution and whose work provides an amazing archive of the period.
Those who want to learn more about contemporary issues in Cuba should check out the work of Eduardo Garcia, a finalist at the 2016 Magnum Photography Awards. Alejandro Gonzalez is another photographer who focuses on daily life in Havana.
If artistic photography is more your bag, Alfredo Ramos is more conceptual in his work. Liudmila & Nelson are an artist team that exhibited photography around the world, and Nelson is the director of the National Gallery of Photography.
Alejandro Perez is another top name to watch, known as much for his video work as his photography. He directed music videos for Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull and other international artists in recent years.
