The Edgar Felix Memorial Bike Path, Manasquan

The Edgar Felix Bike Path is a 5.4-mile path, starting in Manasquan, N.J., and ending in Allaire State Park. The scenic bikeway is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise at the shore, especially when the roads and boardwalks are crowded in the summer.

The trail begins in a playground, including tennis and basketball courts, making the area perfect for the whole family. The path leads visitors through the rural fields, residential neighborhoods and woods. At several points the path also takes you across some moderately trafficked roadways, so exercise caution when crossing.

A pedestrian bridge takes you over the Garden State Parkway, after which you’ll pass by the Allenwood General Store, which draws visitors in with delicious smells and antique charm. Here you can get food and acai bowls to keep you fueled along the way.

After this, the trail gets quieter and the scenery more sprawling. You’ll pass through Spring Meadow Golf Course, over streams and ponds and through open fields.

This bike path is also historic, as it was the first cycling trail created in New Jersey. End your journey in Allaire State Park and enjoy the restored historic town with antique steam trains, an old church and a museum. It’s another 5.4 miles back to the start for a total of 10.8 miles, if you’re up for the challenge.
