Destinations / North America

If you’re planning a trip around America’s 250th birthday and want to visit some Revolutionary War sites, you might first think to visit Philadelphia, Boston or Valley Forge. However, don’t overlook the wealth of Revolutionary War history found all over New York State.

In the Hudson Valley, Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, Fort Montgomery State Historic Site and Stony Point Battlefield provide a glimpse into key moments during the Revolutionary War, all within a quick daytrip from New York City.

If you’re closer to Albany, the Capital-Saratoga region has its own important sites, including Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site and Saratoga National Historical Park. If you’re more of a historic house person than a battlefield aficionado, try Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site or General Philip Schuyler House.

In the Adirondacks, the hub of Revolutionary War history is Fort Ticonderoga, but don’t forget to visit other nearby sites as well, including Crown Point State Historic Site and Lake George Battlefield Park.
