You don’t think of museums as chains, like you would a McDonalds or an AMC theater, but they exist. One of them is the Federal Reserve Bank’s Money Museum. Ironically, the museum is free and there are versions around the country. If you enjoy quirky museums and have some time to kill while walking from the Magnificent Mile to the Loop, you may want to check this out.

It is located in Chicago’s Loop. Exhibits vary a little, but what you can expect to learn is how the Federal Reserve operates and the history of U.S. currency. If you are a numismatic enthusiast, or enjoy a nice $2 bill when you get your hands on one, then these exhibits offer a piece of American history you really won’t get elsewhere. Don’t expect an economics lesson in general, but more of a rundown of the history of banks in the United States. If Hamilton is playing, that would be the perfect way to cap off your visit!

The Museum is open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., and guided tours are possible. Understandably, it is closed on bank holidays. Before you go, you might want to take its quiz.
