Also called lokum in Turkey, you’ll find it in a variety of new flavors, but the original is still a favorite. Try one of the below vendors for the best in the country during your next visit.
Lokum Istanbul has several boutique locations. You could spend hours browsing the mouth-watering wares lined neatly on the shelves of this classy establishment. In addition to Turkish delight and other treats, you’ll find stationary, candles and fragrances. If you find you’re running out of your favorite product when you arrive home, you can order more off the website.
A highly recommended shop in Istanbul is Hafiz Mustafa 1864. In addition to Turkish delight in just about every variety, from pomegranate and kiwi to mint and cinnamon, you’ll also find other classic Turkish sweets such as baklava.
Another favorite is Divan Patisserie, located inside a brasserie, where you can not only make a purchase, but also enjoy afternoon tea. The Turkish coffee-flavored Turkish delight is sure to please.
Hacı Bekir is credited with the international spread of Turkish delight, when travelers visited the shop in the 1700s and reportedly brought some back to their home countries. Browse more than 30 varieties of Turkish delight in the original shop, now in its fifth generation of the family who started it all.
