Halo Top Ice Cream

Some believe that ice cream, like white pants, should stop being enjoyed after Labor Day. However, I’m a rebel. Ice cream is my favorite food, my one true weakness, my Achilles heel.
So, when I heard there is a brand of ice available with half the calories, I had to check it out.

Halo Top offers a low-calorie, low-sugar, high-protein, half-the-fat alternative to regular ice cream. You can purchase Halo Top online, but beware of the shipping costs. I was lucky to find it in a King’s Market a few miles from my house, although they only had a few flavors available.

Each pint cost about $6, more than I would usually spend on ice cream, but because it was low calorie, I supposed I could justify the price.

The vanilla was packed with little black specks of vanilla bean, and didn’t taste overly sweet. The strawberry was my favorite of the three flavors I tried, and had real pieces of fruit inside. The birthday cake flavor tasted exactly like a cupcake, and had colorful sprinkles mixed in.

I was nervous with the added protein and artificial sweeteners (stevia and sugar alcohol), these ice creams would taste like frozen protein shakes. However, I was pleasantly surprised. They were not too sweet. The texture was a little thicker than regular ice cream, but they use milk in addition to cream.

Overall, I was impressed with the product, and although I don’t think I will regularly purchase Halo Top, I’m glad to know it’s there when I need a frozen treat that won’t completely throw my diet.
