San Antonio is a city with a rich colonial heritage. The south-central Texas city is home to many famous historical landmarks. On your next visit to the Alamo City, check out these sites.
The most well-known attraction on this list, the Alamo was the site of a 13-day siege, the Battle of the Alamo, that shaped Texan and American history. The building is part of the San Antonio Missions UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admission is free.
Built in 1738, the cathedral once served as a lookout for soldiers during the Battle of the Alamo. Today, the cathedral hosts Roman Catholic mass as well as other community events.
The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is comprised of Spanish frontier missions: Mission Concepción, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, Mission Espada. While the Alamo is also a mission, it is not a part of the park. The complexes were built in the 18th century by Franciscan missionaries.
The San Antonio Riverwalk is a network of walkways along the San Antonio River. The project broke ground in 1939 and is one of the city’s most-visited attractions. Restaurants, bars, shops and other attractions line the River Walk.
