Holland America Line and Seattle’s oldest craft brewery team up to offer cruisegoers the chance to crack open a cold one in America’s Icebox this summer. The cruise line entered into an exclusive collaboration with Pike Brewing to celebrate the beginning of the Alaskan cruise season.
The new, seasonal Killer Whale Pale Ale will be available exclusively onboard Alaska cruises. The beer features notes of honey, citrus and tropical fruits with an ABV of 5.5 percent. Native Alaska artist Rico Worl, a Tlingit and Athabascan community member, designed the label artwork. Three iterations were initially crafted, and the public selected their favorite.
“The design on the label represents the food chain in the Pacific Northwest,” Worl said. “The figure on the top is the killer whale depicted with its distinctive dorsal fin and sharp teeth. Below the killer whale, the seal deftly maneuvers out of the killer whale’s grasp by switching directions. Both are clever and witty creatures, and it was fun to envision the chase with multiple directions of movement as visual characteristics.”
Enjoy the beer on Alaskan cruises, alongside other culinary programs like the Global Fresh Fish Program, glacier ice cocktails and more.
