Hong Kong is a vibrant, energetic city boasting some of the most famous restaurants, hotels, music and theater venues and art scenes anywhere in the world. That being said, those seeking a quiet experience needn’t look any further than Hong Kong’s best-kept secret: its natural beauty.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city lie remote beaches, rustic villages, serene islands and gorgeous hiking routes. A new campaign by the Hong Kong Tourism Board called Great Outdoors educates travelers about the wealth of outdoor opportunities available in Hong Kong with three specially curated experiences.
Hiking in Heritage
This walk emphasizes urban hiking trails around the city, ranging from easy to difficult. The trails, lined with lush greenery, offer a unique glimpse into the city’s colonial history.
Picture-Perfect Vistas
As the name implies, this route runs along the Magnificent Landscapes trail, offering breathtaking views along the way to Sunset Peak. It also visits the remote and romantic Silvermine Bay Beach, surrounded by lush mountains and blue water.
Geographical Wonders
Hong Kong’s New Territories are home to diverse, eerily beautiful geological formations. The natural wonders of Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark include the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and the Sedimentary Rock Region — both formed 140–160 million years ago.
While you don’t need to actually join these specific tours, they’re great inspiration for your own Hong Kong outdoor adventure.
