Tips / Travel

The use of social media for travel advice, tips and reservations is on the rise, with many apps offering offline capabilities meaning you don’t have to have data service to use them. Travel companies are jumping onboard this trend by making themselves available across all networks so their guests can inquire about their vacations at any time on any day.

Facebook groups, live Tweeting and live chatting gives hotels, rental agencies and airlines direct access to their clients. Major airlines can inform their passengers about delays, gate changes and baggage restrictions, while hotels can answer last-minute queries about arrival times, amenities and local attractions.

The immediacy of information and the race to provide the best customer service in the shortest amount of time is fueling the competition among travel companies and, thus, benefitting travelers who are hungry for the most up-to-date info.

Information aside, travelers can also use social media to launch complaints about services. Because these complaints are made public immediately, companies have no choice but to resolve the issue promptly to appease their guests. Corporations are relying on customers’ positive reviews to increase their business, therefore pushing for the most excellent service, knowing every detail could potentially be broadcast to the world.

Travelers have more guest-reviewed resources at their fingertips than ever as learning about their destinations from past visitors is now just a click away. As long as the ever-growing power of the written word continues on its prosperous path, consumers will enjoy honest insight to aid in their travel decisions.
