The 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held Sept. 18, in Los Angeles. While tickets to the ceremony are available to the public for purchase, the majority of people watch from the comfort of their own home. Make the occasion special by hosting a celebration of your own. Follow our tips on how to throw an Emmys party.
- Decorate your house or apartment in Emmys colors. Buy gold-accented napkins, plates and any other novelties reflecting Hollywood glamour.
- Dress for the occasion. Use the party as an excuse to don your fanciest outfit. If a costume party is more your style, invite your guests to dress up as a character from their favorite nominated show. Up the ante by giving away a prize — perhaps your own version of an Emmy — to the best costume.
- Keep score. Ask your guests to fill out a scorecard guessing the winners. The person with the highest number of correct guesses can also win a prize.
- In keeping with a theme, serve snacks and drinks inspired by the nominated shows. Order Game of Thrones beer or a few bottles of pinot noir from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star/wine seller Tituss Burgess.
- Make it a drinking game. Let’s face it: Awards shows can be pretty predictable. Designate a few drinking game rules to make it more interesting: Take a drink every time someone cries during a speech; take a drink whenever a speech is cut off by music; or take a drink when the host makes fun of a celebrity.
