Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile is not exactly located on Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile, but instead a block over on North Saint Clair. This location makes it a little less crowded with tourists, but still close enough to not feel completely removed from the action.

When you arrive, the staff is ready and waiting to jump to your service as they whisk away your luggage and escort you to the front desk.

During the week, the hotel is rather empty, with no lines at check-in or wait at the bar. If you show up in the morning, you can grab a coffee at the Starbucks located inside the building and sit at one of the sidewalk tables. If it’s a bit later in the day, the hotel’s Level Two, which recently won an award from OpenTable, serves up dinner and drinks in the stylish lounge off the lobby. On a weekday evening, it was the only part of the hotel that really drew a crowd, offering live music and specials on the bar’s locally brewed craft beer.

The rooms are standard size, unless you upgrade to a suite, but there was plenty of storage, which can come in handy. The WiFi is complimentary, a practice which more hotels should adopt. The décor was modern, with lots of grays, blacks and dark woods — it gave the room overall a very masculine feel, with nothing pretty or soft to break the monotony. The room was also not very well lit, which made the whole place seem even darker.

My own personal issues with the décor and lighting aside, I found the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile a fine hotel that still has a lot to offer.
