Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

If you want to get a taste for the jungle in Peru, there are two main areas popular with visitors. The first is the region around the city of Iquitos in the north of the country, the most populous city in the world that cannot be reached by road. To get here, you’ll have to take a boat or fly from Lima.

Stay at the Ceiba Tops lodge, 40 kilometers from Iquitos toward the tri-border with Brazil and Colombia. It’s a sumptuous place to stay, and it won’t come cheap, but the jungle tours are great.

Another option is Treehouse Lodge, were you sleep in the tree canopy 20 meters off the ground. Take part in daytime or nocturnal jungle walks, dolphin watching, fishing and trips to visit local indigenous populations.

The other popular region to visit is the southern Amazon around the city of Puerto Maldonado. Here you can stay in Posada Amazonas, where your jungle trips will be guided by members of the Ese’eja tribe, or Hacienda Concepcion, which offers great facilities at an affordable price.

While many lodges charge premium prices for accommodations and tours, there are good deals out there. If you can take a chance, try booking once you get to Peru instead of online.

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
