Trends / LGBTQIA+

More than 10,000 gay men and women descend upon Mykonos, Greece, each year. What is it that makes this idyllic Mediterranean hamlet such a popular draw for the LGBTQ crowd? Its breathtaking beaches, upbeat culture and reputation for being the most gay-friendly place in Europe certainly help.

You won’t find any places in Mykonos unwelcoming to the LGBTQ community; it’s perfectly safe to be yourself here. Nightlife in this island town revolves around the city center, where people from all over the world mingling and drinking. Even near the seaside you’ll find a few great bars. The popular Jackie O’ is a great place to meet other gay singles while Babylon is also a great choice.

When it comes to beaches, there is no shortage in Mykonos. Elia Beach is probably the most popular for the LGBTQ crowd, though Super Paradise is a close second. As for places to stay, you can’t go wrong anywhere on the island, but Elysium is the only hotel specifically marketed for gay travelers.

Every August the island hosts the insanely popular XLSIOR Festival, a seven-day event that boasts one of the largest gay attendances around. Honestly, you can’t go wrong no matter when you visit Mykonos, but the summer is definitely the perfect time to get away.
