Taipei has a flourishing LGBTQ community thanks to a lively gay scene with numerous bars and beautiful, tropical weather that’s inviting year-round. The Red House District is famous throughout Asia, making it one of the top destinations for LGBTQ travelers.
Centered in the heart of Taipei, Red House District is an open terrace space with more than 20 bars open on the weekend. It also hosts the annual New Year’s Eve countdown for the gay community. Popular bars include Abrazo and La Boca, located on Yen Ji Street.
While you’re in the city, take a stroll around Peace Memorial Park, located right in front of the Presidential Palace. In 1997, it became the site of the Taiwanese version of the Stonewall Riots and, before that, it was already a popular hot spot for the LGBTQ community to meet.
When it comes to dining, Taipei has plenty of options. Chief among those are Cats on the Roof, a private dining experience held in the home of a lovely gay couple, though bookings need to be made a year in advance. Other great eateries include RAW and Ephernité.
If you’re in need of a place to stay, the W Hotel is a premier hotel in the city and is widely known for its LGBTQ-friendly status with a staff always in the know about what’s happening in the city.
