Depending on a myriad of factors, airports can provide fun ways to pass the time or serve as miserable hangars of impatience between flights. Airports are looking for new ways to invigorate wary travelers, including providing movies, spas and varied bars and restaurants to entertain passengers.
A few major airports have taken the idea a step further by offering live music in their terminals, giving the passenger the feeling of attending a live concert between flights. Many travelers find music to be a calming force when the stress of air travel becomes too intense. Thus, the live music experience aims to corral those killing time between flights and enjoy a few moments of auditory bliss.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, for example, puts on live shows to bring attention to the city’s local music, both past and present. A poster exhibit features Pearl Jam among other famous acts that have sprung from the Seattle music scene.
Known far and wide for its extraordinary live music and popular music festivals, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport hosts Music in the Air with six stages located throughout the terminal.
Nashville International Airport, located in what is considered Music City, has four live music stages throughout the airport and showcases between 80 and 100 musical acts each year.
