Tips / Travel

Memorial Day lands on May 25 this year. Don’t wait until the last minute to plan your weekend. Follow these tips to ensure you have a memorable Memorial Day weekend.

Stock up on gas

Memorial Day weekend is historically a driving holiday. With national average gas prices on the rise, be sure to stock up on gas in advance of your travels.

Know the TSA rules

Check the TSA website’s summer travel guide for complete information on air travel.

Go off-peak

If you’re traveling a significant distance, plan to make your trip during off-peak hours.

Stay indoors

Memorial Day weekend is a big weekend for movie releases. Many people use the it as a time to catch up on the latest blockbusters.

Visit a museum

While other people will likely have the same idea, some museums host special exhibits during Memorial Day weekend.

Parade around town

Watch a parade in your town. Cities across the country celebrate this holiday with parades honoring our military and fallen veterans.

Attend a festival

Often considered the unofficial kick-off to summer, this is a popular weekend for local festivals. Check the tourism website of the city closest to you for their Memorial Day weekend offerings.

Be safe

With millions hitting the road for the long weekend, safety is most important. Use caution in large crowds. Drink responsibly. Bring snacks and beverages for your trip. Make sure your first aid kit is fully stocked.
