Micro Homes Are a Growing Trend for Urban Dwellers

There is a new trend in town and it is only about 100–400 square feet. This is the micro home trend. Many people have sold normally sized homes and downsized — by a lot. Why are people doing this? Well for many reasons: environmental concerns, financial concerns or the interest in having more frequent life adventures. The American dream of a household with children, a dog and a two-car garage no longer seems to be the norm.

Some may compare living in a micro home similar to the experience New Yorkers face living in shoebox apartments. Many question how sustainable they are for long term. These concerns have not stopped housing developers, as micro apartments are being constructed in various cities like New York, San Francisco Chicago and Vancouver. These cities adopted zoning changes to allow micro housing less than 400 square feet. It appears these micro-dwellings are here to stay.
