Safari company Asilia opened two camps in Southern Tanzania, including its flagship Jabali Ridge in Ruaha National Park, and Roho ya Selous in the neighboring Selous Game Reserve.
Jabali Ridge is a sophisticated property in Southern Tanzania, perched on a kopje overlooking a forest of Baobab trees. The resort seamlessly blends with the rocks surrounding the property; guestrooms offer an open-air feel with interrupted views over the park. Guests enjoy the resort’s understated luxury, including natural, locally sourced materials and amenities including an infinity pool, spa and dedicated library full of local stories and history.
Ruaha, home to Jabali Ridge, is Tanzania’s largest national park, but only offers a few safari camps so game drives aren’t overcrowded. The regional eco-system is home to many of Africa’s most endangered species, large populations of lions and elephants and less common species like roan and sable.
Located in the Selous Game Reserve, Roho ya Selous is an eight-tent camp surrounded by water set on a palm-lined spit. As with all building projects Asilia undertakes, as much as possible was sourced and made locally. Selous, a UNESCO World Heritage site, boasts the meandering Rufiji River, lagoons and lakes, all explorable by boat.
These camp openings are part of a long-term strategy to boost responsible tourism in Southern Tanzania and to positively contribute to local economic development and conservation efforts. The company currently operates 21 properties in East Africa.
