The Muslim travel market is growing at a rapid pace, particularly in regards to Asian destinations. It’s estimated Muslim travelers now account for approximately 11 percent of the world’s travelers as a whole, spending $145 billion on travel costs. If things keep progressing, by 2020 Muslims will be the largest travel group in the world.

Salam Standard helps Muslim travelers find hotel accommodations that f increase their satisfaction with their stay through special amenities and offerings. Hotels and resorts are graded according to their compliance to a certain set of expectations, and receive a bronze, silver or gold rating. Properties must apply to receive a rating and, if given a rating, are able to display their status anywhere they wish. Salam Standard also promotes the top-rated properties online, on social media, in its newsletter and more.

The Bronze Standard is relatively easy for properties to meet — all that’s needed are prayer mats with provided Qibla directions. Silver Standard includes properties that provide both prayer mats and Qibla directions, as well as halal restaurant recommendations and that remove all alcohol from the minibar. Gold Standard properties meet all of the above requests, plus offer their own halal-certified dining options.

Many well-known brands are now part of the Salam Standard program, including properties from AccorHotels, Anantara Hotels & Resorts and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.
