Off-The-Radar SCUBA Destinations

SCUBA diving is not for everyone, especially if you’re claustrophobic or simply can’t swim. However, for those that have taken the time to get certified, many find it a lifestyle that dictates where they travel and occupies their thoughts whenever they find themselves out of the water.

At the risk of simply stating the obvious, SCUBA diving can get quite expensive. Certification is a must and it’s often expensive, but once it’s done you have options nearly everywhere there is water.

The more exquisite the diving, the more it will cost you. The Blue Hole of Belize is certainly more expensive than the Bay Islands of Honduras, so keep this in mind. Get certified in Honduras and then go to Belize. Learning to dive at the Great Barrier Reef is going to cost you as well. But there are options.

The Azores in Portugal are becoming more popular each year for divers and the euro continues its struggle economically and against other currencies. The Azores will put you face to face with mantas and blue sharks and might offer the best diving in Europe.

Gozo, the neighboring island of Malta, is almost unknown to most, but is becoming a more looked-at dive spot with underwater caves, sunken ships and a plethora of sea life.
