Want to get away this holiday without running into a crowd of tourists? Look beyond the usual resorts and destinations to discover something new this season.
Get chilly. Most people head south during the holiday months. Change that up by going toward the snow rather than away from it (the only exception to this rule is ski resorts — they will be packed). Take a trip on the wild side and discover the natural beauty of Antarctica or Canada.
Get out. Instead of snuggling into a warm lodge, go camping. Visit the National Parks and stay in cabins or on the campgrounds. Just be sure to dress for the weather — it can get pretty chilly.
Get local. Maybe you’re not up for a world trip but also don’t want to spend the holiday at home. Take this chance to explore a nearby city and have your own staycation. Consider anything within public transportation-distance fair game.
Get friendly. For a low-budget option, consider a house swap with some friends or family from out of town or look at listing sites like AirBnB for deals.
Enjoy your holidays away from the crowds and make it a season to celebrate.
