Packing for winter travel can be a lot more complicated and involved than packing for a warm and sunny tropical getaway. Rather than keeping your packing list to the bare minimum and packing light and airy clothing, you instead have to consider all the elements, from sunny cold days to snowy days to utterly frozen temperatures. When packing your suitcase for your upcoming cold-weather holiday, consider including the following items.
A Breathable Base Layer
If you’re heading for a cold climate, layers are a given, but the base layer is almost as important as your protective outer layer. Consider a breathable fabric as adding bulk on top of the base layer can cause extreme overheating throughout the other layers. Stay comfortable and avoid drenching your bottom layer with sweat by opting for something made of cotton or a sweat-wicking fabric.
Lined Bottoms
Many retailers sell pants and leggings that come with a soft interior liner, adding an extra layer of warmth for your legs without adding an extra layer of fabric. The more fabric piled on, the more difficult it is to move so combining two layers into one is the more flexible option.
A Flexible Jacket
Top off your look with a multipurpose jacket that not only protects you from harsh wind and precipitation, but also moves easily, can pack into your luggage compactly and features a hood (preferably lined) that can take the place of a winter hat.
