Don’t leave Fido at home when you head out onto the open road. Approximately 19 million American traveling families traveled with or plan to travel with their dog this year, according to a survey by HomeAway.
The report also analyzed more than 2 million vacation homes to find the most dog-friendly home-share destinations. It found the majority of dog-friendly destinations are situated near the beach or lakes, perfect for pups who love to swim, splash or get their paws in some sand.
The Top 10 dog-friendliest destinations, according to HomeAway, are, in descending order: Four Corners, Fla.; Davenport, Fla.; San Diego, Calif.; Palm Springs, Calif.; Big Bear Lake, Calif.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Kissimmee, Fla.; New York, N.Y.; Miramar Beach, Fla.; and Hilton Head Island, S.C.
However, if you’re looking for a property that goes above and beyond when catering to your pooch, HomeAway has you covered there, too. You can find properties through the home-share provider that offer private dog ponds, fenced-in farms, agility courses, doggy doors, paw-shaped pools and more.
“These days more dog owners are able to bring their pets when they travel because there are so many homes, cabins and condos to rent for the whole family, even the furry members,” said Melanie Fish, family travel expert, HomeAway. “When using HomeAway.com to book an upcoming vacation, travelers simply select whether they are bringing any pets along and search results will include only properties that welcome pets.”
