Revealed: Best and Worst Cities for Staycations in 2024

Personal finance website WalletHub revealed its list of Best and Worst Cities for a Staycation in 2024. The WalletHub team compared cities around the country using 42 key indicators within recreation, food and entertainment, and rest and relaxation. Those cities with the highest score in metrics including restaurant meal costs and swimming pools per capita ranked at the top of the list.

 

The best cities for a staycation are:

  1. Orlando, Florida
  2. Honolulu, Hawai’i
  3. Cincinnati, Ohio
  4. Las Vegas, Nevada
  5. Tampa, Florida
  6. Chicago, Illinois
  7. San Diego, California
  8. Atlanta, Georgia
  9. New Orleans, Louisiana
  10. Tucson, Arizona

 

The worst cities for a staycation are:

  1. Fremont, California
  2. Irving, Texas
  3. Pearl City, Hawai’i
  4. Chula Vista, California
  5. Yonkers, New York
  6. Santa Clarita, California
  7. Laredo, Texas
  8. Hialeah, Florida
  9. Santa Ana, California
  10. Moreno Valley, California

 

Orlando takes the top spot due in part to the high number of attractions and activities in the city. It also boasts many ice cream shops for beating the heat this summer. Honolulu ranks second thanks to its numerous outdoor activities and affordable spas. Cincinnati rounds out the top three. The city is home to affordable restaurants and house-cleaning services.
