Reviews / Hotel

When scheduling a short weekend trip to Washington, D.C., I happened upon a great deal at the Hyatt Arlington. The 4-star hotel is located a short drive from the National Mall, but within walking distance of several nearby eateries and nightlife spots. The sleek, contemporary exterior matched the surrounding offices nicely, and the location provided a chance to see a side of the D.C. area I was unfamiliar with.

Unfortunately, upon stepping into the poorly maintained lobby, it was easy to see the hotel was undergoing some sort of construction and it was not being hidden from the guests well. However, I checked in quickly and then made my way up to my guestroom.

The standard guestroom was what you’d find in any budget hotel catering to business travelers, and not what you would hope to see in a Hyatt in a large metropolitan area. The décor was unmemorable and the two double beds sufficient at most. The same can be said of the sparse bathroom. Unfortunately, the guestroom as a whole was unimpressive and left me hoping the construction downstairs would extend to some further remodels throughout the rest of the property.

However, while not suitable for leisure travel, the hotel does have everything a busy business traveler on a budget would need. The metro is close by and the StayFit gym is open 24 hours, as is the self-serve business center. The on-site restaurants, though I didn’t have a chance to try them, looked tempting. Both the outdoor and indoor dining areas were well maintained and inviting, as was the rest of the building’s exterior.
