Tips / Safety

Since rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft stepped onto the on-demand transportation scene, riders have enjoyed the ease and flexibility of hiring and paying for transit from one place to another. But with these high-functioning services run by complete strangers comes serious cautionary measures all riders must take into consideration. Arm yourself with the tips below before you get into your next rideshare.

Select a reputable driver. When browsing drivers, select one that has previous reviews and a rating of 4.5 or higher. If a driver has a lower rating, it is grounds for termination and likely an unsatisfactory ride.

Share with a friend. Before you take a trip, inform a friend or family member of the details. Both Uber and Lyft have this function available and allow riders to share their routes and ETAs with someone from their contact list.

Confirm driver details. As your ride pulls up, confirm the driver’s information and license plate number with the information displayed on your app. To ensure the driver is actually yours, ask the driver to confirm the name of the passenger (your name).

Leave a review. Often riders find it an unnecessary waste of time to leave a review for their driver, but riders’ opinions can be extremely helpful for future riders, especially if there are issues with your driver.
