Staying in touch with friends, family and strangers around the world who stare at your Instagram posts is one of the most common concerns for young people when traveling to foreign countries. Myriad products exist to make this connection possible without having to purchase a new SIM card in every country or rely on public hotspots for unsecure connectivity. Among them is the Somewear Global Hotspot, an internet hotspot device that debuted on the travel accessories scene as the world’s smallest satellite hotspot.
Smaller than an iPhone, the Somewear hotspot easily clips to any backpack, belt or luggage and can provide an instant internet connection via satellite technology in nearly any location.
Users can download a mobile app that connects to the hotspot and allows travelers to share information with loved ones. A safety feature of the Somewear hotspot is its location-sharing functionality and its direct connection to other users who downloaded the app.
Currently available on Indiegogo, the Somewear Global Hotspot is still in its final development stages. Having already earned 309 percent of its fundraising goal, the first editions of the Somewear Global Hotspot — conceptualized and developed by Somewear Labs — can be purchased for $319 (plus shipping and handling) for early delivery in August.
