If you’ve never heard of Spiti, it’s one of the most beautiful valleys in the world located in the Himalayas separating India and Tibet. It’s certainly worth a trip at some point in your life and one of the best ways to explore the rocky region is by Jeep.
The Spiti Self-Drive Jeep Safari through Mercury Himalayan Explorations is a unique trip through the different regions of the valley. It allows you to experience a long distance of changing landscape in the shortest time possible.
The 10-day trip begins at the town of Chandigarh, but you won’t be there long. After arriving by train you’ll be whisked away by your guide to the small village of Mashobra where you’ll spend your first night.
The next morning it’s off to Thanedar, a town surrounded by endless orchards and mountain scenery. You’ll camp here overnight in tents before heading off to the Sutlej Fjord the following morning. The gorge is home to a hidden valley where the Baspa River flows freely through the mountains.
The trip only gets better from there. You’ll continue to explore towns both large and small, along with some historic monasteries and Buddhist temples sprinkled across the valley. You’ll discover ancient fossils and some pretty spectacular glaciers along the way.
Prices start around $950 per person if you bring your own car and go up if you decide to rent one for your trip.
