Travelers spend a lot of time sitting down, whether napping on a bus or waiting for flights to board. And if you’re traveling for work, you’re spending even more time sitting down with your laptop as your posture slowly deteriorates. Facing the same problem, Luke Leafgren set out to find a cheap, portable solution with the Stand Stand.
After earning a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Harvard, Leafgren was spending a lot of time reading and writing at the expense of his back. Preferring to work around campus as opposed to his treadmill desk at home, he began designs on a portable podium to place on a table, allowing you to elevate your computer to a comfortable height.
The result is the simple but effective Stand Stand, costing $69 for Baltic Birch and $99 for Bamboo. A standard podium will run you several hundreds of dollars, and while Ikea hacks are much cheaper, they might not be as stable as you’d like to place a laptop on. The Stand Stand’s three panels are simple to assemble, and have an elegant, wooden aesthetic that will fit in any office space or coffee shop.
There are three sizes available: nine inches, 12 inches and 14 inches, and they come in either Baltic birch or bamboo. Stand Stands collapse to the size of a laptop, and the biggest model weighs only 2.1 pounds, perfect for carrying in a messenger bag.
