The crisscross streets of West Hollywood are rife with hot hangouts where the young professionals of Los Angeles aim to be seen, and SUR Restaurant is no exception. An acronym for “Sexy, Unique Restaurant,” the deep purple and pink hues emanating from within the airy eatery and lounge evoke just that, seducing patrons with colorful cocktails and three opulent seating areas.
Owned by West Hollywood restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump, SUR comprises three separate environments: a chic dining room with velvet chairs and white tablecloths, an invigorating lounge with low stools and a pristine bar beneath chandeliers (which often hosts local DJs) and a garden terrace that is partially covered and allows larger groups to dine or share cocktails in an ethereal space.
SUR’s menu highlights include cuisine from all over world, such as steamed dumplings filled with chicken and shrimp and served with a sweet Thai chili sauce; a couscous salad topped with avocado, ahi tuna and a lime/olive oil dressing; and porcini mushroom ravioli drenched in a marinara sauce, all served at slightly elevated WeHo prices.
Some of SUR’s signature cocktails can also be found at Vanderpump’s other restaurants and include the Raspberry Mojito, the Strawberrini and the SUR Gimlet made with vodka, fresh lime and sugar.
