Mozambique has long been synonymous for epic beach vacations thanks to miles upon miles of beautiful coastline, which is exactly why the best way to explore the country is to surf it. While riding the waves you’ll also have the chance to visit some of the best cities and villages the country offers.
Some of the best surfing in the country is right off the coast of the capital city of Maputo. It delivers truly epic waves all year-round while also immersing you in the closest thing to a metropolitan region Mozambique has. There are numerous restaurants, shops and cultural events to discover here.
Further south, closer to the border of South Africa, is where you’ll find Ponta d’Ouro. There’s a charming surfing village here with pristine beaches where you can relax and mingle with the locals before hitting world-class waves.
Near Inhambane lies the renowned Barra Beach, where you’ll find the most consistent waves in the country along with one of the least touched pieces of wilderness. There’s ample opportunity here to discover the wildlife by partaking in small safaris or trekking expeditions and it routinely makes it near the top of the list of the country’s best beaches.
Of course, if you’re a hardened surfer, there’s probably no better spot than Tofinho Point. Located just off the village of Tofo, the Point has the best right break in Mozambique and the toughest waves in Africa.
