Vacations are for relaxation, but for those looking for adventure Ecuador’s La Casa del Arbol offers the ultimate thrill. More commonly known as the “End of the World,” La Casa del Arbol is a vantage point in Bellavista Cloud Forest, located 2,600 meters above sea level. Visitors can observe Mt. Tungurahua, a nearby active volcano, as well as the expansive forested mountain region of Baños.
While for many, the trip to the vantage point and the views it provides are sufficient adventure, others prefer the adrenaline rush of swinging at the “End of the World.” Visitors will find a tree house, used as a seismic monitoring station, located on the side of a cliff with a wooden swing that allows the daring to swing out over the edge for breathtaking panoramic views of the volcano and surrounding mountains.
It takes about 30–40 minutes from the city of Baños to reach La Casa del Arbol by car or bus, and for those looking for more of an adventure, rent a quad or motorbike or enjoy a three-hour hike. The views at the top are well worth the trip. Pack a picnic lunch and head to the end of the world for a new perspective and travel experience unlike any other.
