TAP Portugal announced its Portugal Stopover program last summer, making it easy for travelers flying on the airline to Europe to make a short stop in Portugal on their way. The program’s goal was to increase tourism in the country, particularly in the cities of Lisbon and Porto, by offering travelers stops there for no extra cost. During its first year, the Portugal Stopover program resulted in nearly 70,000 new tourists to the country, and is called the best stopover program in the entire world.

After much success with the original program, TAP Portugal announced it is expanding its program this month. Now, travelers booking a stopover can schedule their stop for as many as five days (instead of the original three), and they can see not only Lisbon and Porto, but also Madeira, Azores or Algarve. Additionally, it’s no longer necessary to book a return flight to also book a stopover — the program is now available on one-way journeys as well.

Additionally, the airline partnered with more than 150 vendors in the country to offer exclusive pricing for travelers, who can enjoy special rates at hotels, complimentary bottles of Portuguese wine in restaurants and free cultural experiences, ranging from museum visits to tastings.
