Reviews / Restaurant

This past May, while I spent time in Los Angeles, Calif., I had the opportunity to visit various restaurants, sampling the cuisine of the West Coast. One restaurant in particular that tickled my fancy was The Ivy in Los Angeles.

Known for its upscale Californian cuisine, I heard nothing but outstanding reviews and I figured it was a must try. This LA landmark goes hand-in-hand with celeb sightings and paparazzi, but to my dismay, we didn’t have any celeb luck.

When we first arrived, we stepped up the brick steps into the outside dining area, dotted with white umbrellas, a quaint picket fence, bright colored flowers and wicker furniture with flowered pillows. It was a sight. I felt like I stepped on to a movie set. Once we went inside for our reservation, there was a table lined with Champagne flutes and buckets. When we turned around, we were immediately offered a glass — and gladly accepted.

Within a few minutes, we were escorted through a packed restaurant to our table. The room we were seated in was just as adorable and quaint as the others, reminding me somewhat of a house Minnie Mouse would decorate.

For an appetizer, I ordered the fresh burrata with roasted baby beets, pine nuts and wild arugula, which was delicious. For lunch, I had a difficult time deciding, as our waiter noted the pasta sauce was the one of the best. Naturally, I opted for the lobster topped with spaghetti in The Ivy Pink Sauce — a house special. If the dish is offered again, I would highly recommend it. The sauce, wonderful and light, had just the right amount of lobster and spaghetti.

For dessert, we split the Old Fashioned Triple-Layer Coconut Cake — YUM. It was one of the lightest, airiest, most delicious cakes I’ve ever enjoyed. I could eat that cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Aside from the food, the service was wonderful, welcoming and friendly. As we paid the check and were about the leave, we were brought over homemade chocolate chip cookies, a staple at The Ivy. Next time I’m back in LA, I will be sure to make a stop at The Ivy once again.
