Anyone who’s visited a destination known for its northern lights viewing during certain times of the year knows, just because you visit doesn’t mean you’ll be able to actually see the northern lights. A lot has to come together for them to be visible, and if the weather doesn’t cooperate, you might be out of luck. However, a new cruise aims to help travelers avoid the disappointment of traveling across the world just to be left lightless.

Norway-based Havila Voyages is an eco-friendly cruise provider operating exclusively on the Norwegian coast. The line’s four ships sail between Kirkenes and Bergen year-round. In addition to being eco-friendly, the ships feature a Scandinavian design for sleek, contemporary cabins — and now, Havila Voyages gives travelers a “northern lights promise,” when they take a 12-day, round-trip cruise through March 31, 2024.
While the cruise line can’t exactly promise you’ll see the lights during your particular cruise, the promise does guarantee, if the northern lights aren’t visible during your trip, you’ll get a free six- or seven-day cruise the next year, Oct. 2024–March 2025. All you have to do is book your free, new trip within a month of your original cruise ending.
