It’s tempting to shove clothes into your luggage when packing and worry about combating wrinkles when you get to your destination. However, if you are traveling for an occasion where formalwear is required, you need to pay closer attention to the way you pack. Follow our tips to avoid wrinkles on the road.
Pack heavier items, like shoes, at the bottom of your suitcase so they won’t weigh down your clothes. If you have room in your suitcase, pack a travel steamer in case your outfit does have a few wrinkles. In general, rolling clothes is less likely to cause wrinkles than folding. For extra protection, wrap these items in light plastic bags before placing in your suitcase. Polyester is less likely to hold wrinkles than fabrics like cotton and linen. When you arrive at your destination, take your garment out to hang up immediately.
For Men
Roll your ties instead of folding. Start with the narrow end and roll toward the wider end. Wrap the rolled tie in a sock for extra security. For suits, turn the jacket inside out to fold and follow the permanent creases of the pants to ensure a crisp fold.
For Women
Place your dress in a large plastic bag — like the kind you get at the dry cleaner. Lay the dress flat and gently fold or roll, depending on the shape. Place your dress at the top of your suitcase.
