Chicago is beautiful in summer. Lake Michigan is shimmering, boats have set sail and summer festival season is in full swing. Whether you are into food or music or both, this town has something for everyone.

Chicago Blues Festival: June 8–10 in Millennium Park, the Blues Festival is the largest in the world. Former performers include Ray Charles and B.B. King. Admission is free.

Lollapalooza: A stalwart tradition of the 1990s, this rocking tradition happening Aug. 2–5 this year in Grant Park. Headliners include Jack White, Bruno Mars and The Weekend. Ticket prices vary.

The Taste of Chicago: Taste is Chicago’s opportunity to show off its culinary prowess and some good. Old-fashioned delights. It takes place in Grant Park July 11–15. Music is included. Admission is free, but you will have to pay for food.

If more specific foods and cultures are your style and maybe smaller crowds, check out some of the neighborhood food festivals:

Taste of Greektown: Known as an event at which “Hellenic pride takes center stage,” the Greektown food fest will take place Aug. 26–28 this year. Located at 400 S. Halstead and Van Buren, this festival will have live music and gyro eating contests. Only serious contenders should apply.

Taste of Polonia: This festival, held over Labor Day weekend each year, will offer Polish food, beer and music. Get ready to Polka Aug. 31–Sept. 3 at the Copernicus Center.

What to Expect at This Year’s Catskill Cuisine Fest

The second annual Catskill Cuisine festival is set to kick off soon, May 10–12. After the inaugural event’s success, this year’s festival is bigger than ever, with the one-day main event once again held at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (historic site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival). Events, including a charity golf tournament and Mother’s Day brunch, will also occur throughout the weekend.

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).
